Materials used to make the Las Vegas wedding invitations: double sided mulberry paper decorative vellum Ace of Hearts rubber stamp ribbon glue runner

The Mulberry paper I used for this project was purchased from an arts and crafts store as scrapbooking paper. These kinds of papers are often sold at arts and crafts supplies like Michael’s Crafts and A.C. Moore. You can buy them by the sheet.
You can also get these papers online through Paper.com but they will be in different sizes than those I used for this particular project.

The particular paper I bought came sized at 12″ by 12″ so I utilized the size to make these invitations two to a page. What I did was start by cutting the paper in half. so that in the end I essentially had an invitation that was just around 6″ by 6″ or so.

After I cut the paper in half, I turned the outer edges of the paper into deckled edges. I did this by holding a ruler down on the edge (about 1/4″ in from the edge) and wet the place in which i would tear with a Q-tip. After slightly wetting the paper I then teared the edge off carefully, leaving a deckled rough edge behind. It makes the paper appear more like a handmade paper.
Keep in mind that if it seems like a bit much, you can forfeit this step and still have a very pretty invitation. Or you could just buy handmade paper that already deckled edges.

Next I folded the edges of the Las Vegas wedding invitations in towards the center. This part is actually pretty easy. Just bring each edge in toward the middle until they meet each other. Now let them overlap each other by about a 1/4″. Now either fold the outer edges down, or, if you would rather score the paper before folding just make a small fold near the top to show where the fold will go. Use this notch as a guide line for where to score the paper.

I made the playing card decoration on the front of the invitations using the same mulberry paper and a rubber stamp. The rubber stamp is by Inkadinkadoo. They have a number of playing card stamps and other decorative stamps.
To make the paper rectangles to stamp the image on I drew a grid onto the back of the mulberry paper using a ruler and pencil. I made the rectangles sized at 2 1/4″ by 3″. Using the ruler and pencil guidelines I tore each and every rectangle out of the paper. If you do not want to go for the deckled edge look, just cut it with a paper cutter
When stamping the image onto the card make sure and use a really good stamping ink. Cheap ink will not come out looking good, trust me. After stamping the image onto the rectangle attach it to the front of the card. You want to attach it by only one edge so that you can still open the card at the folds. I applied a strip of glue down the left edge and attached it there only.

Make Your Own Wedding Invitations

So you want to make your own wedding invitations. Most Bride’s-to-be want their invitations to be perfect. One great way to get a perfectly customized and one-of-a-kind, unique invitation, is to make it yourself.

Making your own invitations is one of the most popular of the many ways to cut valuable dollars from that wedding budget. Some brides-to-be forgo this idea with the thought that they are just not creative enough to make an elegent handmade invitation. And this is where I want to help. And trust me, I know about keeping it on the cheap. I had an extreme budget wedding. And, of course, I made my own invitations. I will tell you that I made these invitations for less than $50.00 for around 100 guests. That includes all the supplies and paper, copying and cutting, etc… I was going for as simple as I could get while staying with my wedding theme (which was kind of a garden theme with green and lilac accents). But even if you decide to go with a much fancier or more elaborate invitation, you will almost always save a TON more money than buying them through a commercial printer or from an artist.

Where Will I Find The Time?

And I know what some of you will say. “Planning a wedding is time consuming and stressful. When will I have the time to make the invitations myself?” Simple. Get help.

It takes time to research different invitation vendors and artists. You then have to take the time to pick out and order the invitations as well. It could take just as much time, maybe even less, to take a trip to the arts and crafts store to pick out papers and supplies. Save even more time by picking them online. Then you just have to come up with a design and make just one invitation. Next enlist the help of some of your most creative friends and family members. While you are planning the rest of your wedding they can take care of the invitations.

Still worried about time issues? Here are some ways to help speed up the process:

# Use blank cards to make your invitations. Most of the ideas on this site can be made using blank cards. Just print onto the outside and then decorate the inside.

# Utilize the services of a local copy shop to help get the text on paper. You can also have your invitation cut and folded. It is inexpensive and fast.

# Print onto blank wedding invites or DIY invitation kits

# Enlist my help. I offer desktop publishing services. I can set up a printable wedding text template to help you on your way. Or try our new printable wedding invitations kits complete with printable RSVP’s and Thank You cards. See completed invitations…
